Dr. Douglas Gensel

Owner and Veterinarian

Dr. Gensel is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and studied to become a veterinarian due to his desire as a child to “make animals healthier and ease their pain”. He has administrated and practiced in NV and NY but found his dream in Bladen County. He has helped many owners through the “joyful and tearful moments of their pet’s lives”, therefor forming lasting friendships. Presently. Dr. Gensel is the acting veterinarian at the animal shelter, and is an active board member for Bladen Rabies and Health Boards. His passion for saving the lives of abandoned and abused animals has lead him to assist in setting up a “Low Income Spay and Neuter Clinic” with local rescues. His facility is one where everyone can learn something new each day. Elizabethtown Veterinary Hospital is popular with the local “Job Shadowing” and local school district’s pet educational programs. The doctor’s and staff’s emphasis is on pet disease, hard and soft tissue surgical repairs, laser treatment, the importance of spay and neuters, and pet health awareness. He has carried on the vision of the county’s “Rabies Clinics” initiated by the late Dr. Midyett. Dr Gensel strives to bring the highest quality of medicine, diagnostics, surgery and client education to communities.
